Compositions or photographic“collages”

impromptu chronicles of the Anthropocene

The structure, composition and balance of tones are at the center of these intuitive and spontaneous creations. The images are drawn mainly from my photographic archives, sometimes from the public domain. These "collages" are elaborated by positioning, arranging, adjusting, and retouching the components over time, like a musical composition.

Memories, visions of nature and civilization, mingle and supplement each other.  Signs, graphs and other emanations of knowledge mix too, in half-tone, fulsome and colorful scenes.

In this structured setting are notions of contemporary disorder.  These suggest a disturbing vision of humanity, its use of territory and works that inevitably supplant all living things and the environment.

Beyond the allegorical character of these images in the intelligible and identifiable details, surfaces and materials that compose them, the viewer’s own memories and reminiscences are invoked, leading to still other times and places.
